The SCJ ruled
In brief, White was arrested on a warrant. A subsequent search incident to arrest revealed a conainter with Methadone pills, a Class B controlled substance. The Court ruled they wre inadmissable as to a search incident to arret as they were neither weapons nor fruits or insturmentalities of the crime committed. They also ruled that the pills were not admissable under the inventory search premise as an officer read the numbers off the pills and did an on-line computer search to identify them. This went beyond the inventory search scope, and became investigative.
