Two new laws have been passed by th Legislature that will impact Police Department:
Chapter 193 of the 2012 Session AN ACT FURTHER REGULATING ANIMAL CONTROL It is rather lengthy but most importantly amends the 209a restraining order law to include languahge related to domestic animals. (see Section 50)
Chapter 240 of the 2012 Session AN ACT REGARDING FAMILIES AND CHILDREN ENGAGED IN SERVICES.
Eliminates CHINS and replaces it with: CHILDREN REQUIRING ASSISTANCE. Of note CRA (CHINS) are no longer " arrested", they are taken into "custodial protection" and can no longer be transported to a Police facility. ( must be taken home or to juvenile court, or to an approved shelter or group home) They not be "confined with shackles or similar dvices". See section 28
